Our Story

Grandchildren of esteemed community and fishing industry leader, the late Billy Smith, have Down East roots dating back to the 1700s. The restaurant is named after our late father, William Ellis Smith, when we had the original Wild Will's 25 years ago on nearby Harkers Island.

Thankful for an over-the-top Labor Day weekend. We really appreciate our wonderful customers and our hard-working staff who pushed through with William at a wedding, missing out on all the fun! That said, school is back in session, and our new hours are Friday and Saturday, opening at 5 pm. It’s September, and it’s still fig time in Atlantic!! If you want to talk figs, we’ve picked three different varieties and we are still picking! It’s also Thursday night Music bingo, with dine-in pizza, and French dips! The best seafood being served in eastern North Carolina. The sea scallop days are getting short, but Wild Will’s just landed a bag that was packed in Beaufort. We’ve got a lot of scallops stories to tell and if you know you know. Like our menu says it’s the best thing out of the fryer and if you know seafood, sea scallops are king! New friends, new places, Oxford University, London and Paris, and some college credits! Mattamuskeet onions are wrapping up in the next few weeks, and they are delicious too. The Wild Will's prime rib, stuffed soft crabs, stuffed NC shrimp, and those jumbo lump crabcakes are on the menu tonight! We had a guest say this week, these are the best crab cakes I've ever eaten. This weekend, fresh Jumbo lump crabmeat for crab cakes, when we get the chance to slip to the Cape or Old Drum Inlet we bring our crabmeat along, tuna from Etheridge Seafood in Wanchese, NC shrimp from Beaufort Inlet Seafood, so they could have been caught by any of our local shrimpers and Mattamuskeet onions, Wild Will’s prime rib, our famous stuffed crabs, and figs! When I say figs, this weekend it's Stacy figs. Can I tell you our bushes could be over 160 years old? That's how long our homeplace has been there. All the proceeds from this book will go towards the Old Burial Ground in Beaufort to help identify and mark graves that have not been identified or marked for over 200 years.
